How to play open D major chord

D major sounds best in open position. It is very easy to play, although because all the notes are so close together finger position for it is a bit awkward. It will take a bit of time to get used to it.

There is also a way to play D major with barre across the bottom 3 strings. It is easier to play but I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners (or anyone really). Learn the proper shape and stick with it.
